The Michelin Defender summer tire is designed for crossovers and SUVs. It is characterized by improved traction on wet surfaces, "passenger car" handling and stability at high speeds, braking efficiency, along with fuel economy, increased mileage and resistance to damage.
The tread pattern is distinguished by a high density of lamella cuts. Numerous slots are located a few millimeters apart from each other, forming a total of thousands of pointed edges. All of them are located at a different angle perpendicular to the direction of movement, which allows the tire to demonstrate stable traction and the ability to slow down intensively on wet surfaces. The effectiveness of the lamellas is also ensured by the characteristics of the rubber compound used in the manufacture of the tread. Its composition is based on natural rubber and a large amount of silicon dioxide, also known as "silica". In combination with a complex of special polymeric substances, this provides the tread with the ability to remain elastic at low temperatures, maximally tightly enveloping even the smallest irregularities on the road surface. It is most pronounced when moving in rainy conditions, providing a more stable grip in such conditions. Here it is also worth noting the increased volume of longitudinal grooves, which allows you to avoid aquaplaning at almost any speed.
Key features of Michelin Defender:
- the increased number of lamellas provides stable traction and high braking intensity on wet surfaces;
- increased rigidity of longitudinal ribs in the central part and blocks in the shoulder areas improves directional stability at high speeds;
- the strengthened carcass structure reduces the risk of tire damage from strong impact effects, improves the stability of grip and the accuracy of handling;
- the optimized rubber compound based on "silica" maintains optimal elasticity at low temperatures, increasing the efficiency of the lamellas, while maintaining resistance to abrasive wear, as well as the formation of cracks and punctures.
