All-season Michelin CrossClimate 3 tire is designed for passenger cars and crossovers operated in regions with moderate winters. The model combines reliable grip on dry and wet asphalt with capable performance on snow-covered roads. Its compliance with snow traction requirements is confirmed by the 3PMSF marking. The third-generation model focuses primarily on improved wet braking, tread life, and fuel efficiency.
V-shaped directional tread
The tread pattern features a directional V-shaped design. Lateral grooves gradually widen from the center toward the shoulder areas, facilitating efficient water evacuation from the contact patch. This helps maintain grip on wet surfaces and reduces the risk of aquaplaning. The channel geometry is engineered to perform effectively both with new and partially worn tread. An advanced system of angled edges enhances the all-season character of the pattern, providing solid traction on snow-covered roads.
Adaptive rubber compound
The tread uses Michelin's Thermal Adaptive Tread Compound, specifically formulated to adapt to changing temperatures and road conditions throughout the year. This compound helps maintain optimal road contact when transitioning from warm, dry asphalt to cold, wet surfaces and snow. Combined with the directional tread pattern, this ensures the tire's versatility in variable weather. According to the manufacturer, wet braking performance has been improved compared to the CrossClimate 2.
Extended tread life
MaxTouch technology optimizes the contact patch and distributes forces generated during acceleration, braking, and cornering. This results in more even pressure across the tread surface, reducing the likelihood of uneven or premature wear. This engineering solution is aimed at extending tread life. Additionally, rolling resistance has been further optimized: reduced energy loss contributes to improved fuel efficiency for internal combustion engine vehicles and helps preserve the driving range of electric vehicles.
Acoustic comfort
Noise reduction is achieved through Piano Acoustic Tuning technology. The size of tread blocks and their arrangement angles are calibrated to minimize sound vibrations generated during rolling. This reduces tread pattern noise and enhances comfort during everyday driving. Acoustic performance was considered throughout the tread design process, ensuring low noise levels both in new condition and as the tire wears.
