ESCOT

This acronym literally means Excellent&Smart Contour Optimization Theory, i.e. an excellent intelligent method of optimizing the tire contour. This technology was developed by the South Korean tire giant Kumho, which recently included the English company Marshal. Therefore, it is quite logical that these technologies were applied to this tire.

As for the ESCOT technology, its main function is to provide safe and comfortable driving. This is achieved by the stability of the tire contour, regardless of the driving mode. At the same time, the size and shape of the contact patch remain almost unchanged. Meanwhile, the distribution of external load on it is characterized by uniformity, which reduces the likelihood of uneven wear and also increases the effectiveness of braking.

The load is also more evenly distributed on the tire sidewall, which has a positive effect on handling. It is characterized by a reliable and predictable nature, which has improved driving comfort.

Three longitudinal ribs

The central part of the Marshal KR21 Solus tread consists of three longitudinal ribs. Their massive size has allowed the maximum increase in the size of the contact patch. This, in turn, has led to a significant improvement in traction on dry pavement. In addition, the presence of three rigid elements in the center of the tread has provided the tire with excellent directional stability and high maneuverability.

Another feature of this part of the tread is the presence of wide peripheral grooves that perform drainage functions. Thanks to their large number, it was possible to achieve excellent performance of the water drainage system. As a result, the tire demonstrates excellent resistance to aquaplaning and traction on wet roads.

It is also worth noting the wavy edges of the two longitudinal ribs on their inner side. This solution has made it possible to significantly reduce the level of resonant noise and vibration load on the tire.

Reinforced shoulder area design

The model has high traction characteristics on various types of pavement. One of the components of these capabilities was the shoulder areas of the tread. They are characterized by rather impressive dimensions, which, on the one hand, is due to the desire to provide the maximum possible size of the contact patch, and on the other hand, to achieve excellent stability during sharp maneuvering. In addition, the shoulder areas are divided into separate blocks by transverse drainage grooves. These tread elements form a multitude of sharp edges that effectively grip the irregularities on the road surface. Moreover, these edges are located almost at a right angle, which has significantly increased the effectiveness of braking, especially on surfaces with a low coefficient of friction.
