Kormoran Stud

The Kormoran Stud winter tire is one of the latest offerings from a well-known Polish manufacturer. Developed by Michelin specialists, which now owns this brand, and produced at the Tigar company's facility, also part of the French tire conglomerate. The model is characterized by an attractive price and decent operational characteristics, noticeably better than those of most competitors in this price range.

Studs

The tire is available with studs installed in factory conditions, using fully automated equipment, which guarantees high reliability of their installation. The steel elements themselves are manufactured by leading European German and Finnish producers.

The stud placement pattern was developed using computer modeling technologies. During movement, they form six continuous rows, each representing a "traction chain". It's worth noting the increased number of steel elements: in most sizes, the tire's tread features more than nine dozen studs. This allows it to demonstrate excellent traction and handling on slippery surfaces.

Multiple Lamellae

In addition to studs, reliable traction in complex winter conditions is achieved through other technical solutions. One of them is the lamellae, which are densely arranged on the tread. This possibility arose due to the sinusoidal shape of these elements, which prevents the blocks from tilting sideways when subjected to transverse acceleration forces. The increased number of lamellae provides a contact patch with numerous traction edges, totaling several thousand such edges.

It's worth noting their placement at almost a right angle to the direction of movement. Thus, the developers were able to significantly improve the longitudinal traction properties, which increased the effectiveness of the tread when starting, accelerating, and braking, especially on compacted snow and icy surfaces.

Extended Service Life

During the development of the tire, much attention was paid to ensuring a long service life. To achieve this, a simple yet effective method was used. The tire features a tread with an increased depth of 9 mm. In this regard, it's worth noting the presence of components in the rubber compound that prevent abrasive and uneven wear. Additionally, the shoulder areas contain massive blocks, which, among other advantages, provide a more even distribution of external load across the contact patch, reducing the risk of premature wear of the tread surface.
