The Continental ContiExtremeContact summer tire is designed for use in the most dynamic versions of passenger cars. It belongs to the category of models with ultra-high performance, demonstrating sporty handling, improved traction on wet surfaces, as well as resistance to damage and long service life.
The tire stands out with a tread profile that has been almost unchanged "borrowed" from sports tires for road racing. Its feature is an extremely small curvature, except for a narrow strip at the very edge of the tread. This noticeably increases the contact patch, which even under significant load maintains a shape close to square. This feature provides extremely stable traction on dry surfaces, especially when changing direction. The optimized profile works in conjunction with the tread pattern, which in this tire consists of massive deformation-resistant elements. First of all, with the so-called "macro-blocks" on the outside of the tread. These elements increase the accuracy of handling and stability during maneuvering. A solid longitudinal rib, offset to the inside of the tread, provides directional stability during straight-line movement. It is worth noting the use of a special rubber compound. Like the profile, it is largely borrowed from sports tires for the "ring". In addition to natural rubber and silicon dioxide, the compound contains a complex of special polymeric components that provide the integrity of the tread at the molecular level, preventing the occurrence of cracks and cracks in its structure under the influence of extremely high loads. Increased elasticity at low temperatures allows the tire to maintain its ability to grip the road surface in unfavorable weather conditions.
