The Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 2 winter passenger tire was specifically designed for the often unpredictable winter conditions in Northern Europe and Russia. This model is intended primarily for owners of powerful and high-speed passenger cars of various classes. Thanks to a wide range of tire sizes with rim diameters from 16 to 21 inches, this tire is perfect for many modern passenger car models. One of the evidence of the excellent technical characteristics of this model is the very high speed indexes H and V.
Tread pattern design
Like most other winter models from this manufacturer, this model is equipped with a tread featuring a V-shaped design of a symmetrical directional pattern. This arrangement of tread elements is the most effective on winter types of road surfaces.
One of the main features of this tread pattern is the original structure of its central part, entirely occupied by two rows of separate blocks. These blocks are arranged in such a way that they form a kind of tank track. This design has made it possible to significantly improve traction on snowy surfaces.
It is also impossible not to mention the presence of two wide longitudinal grooves that separate the shoulder zones of the tread from the rest of it. These grooves have saw-toothed edges, which, combined with their large width, allow a larger part of the tread to come into contact with the road surface by accommodating a sufficient amount of snow.
Adaptive SipeGrip technology
One of the most noticeable innovations was the Adaptive SipeGrip adaptive grip technology, which involves the use of two types of lamellas in one tire, each of which is designed to perform certain functions. At the same time, the orientation of the lamellas always repeats the configuration of the tire's contact patch, which makes it possible to ensure optimal grip, as well as high efficiency of acceleration and braking even in the most unfavorable weather conditions.
The central part of the Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 2 tread is equipped with two-dimensional zigzag-shaped lamellas, which, when in contact with the road surface, open up, creating a multitude of additional grip edges with snowy and icy surfaces.
In the shoulder areas of the tread, there are three-dimensional Waffle Sipe lamellas that give the tread blocks a higher degree of stiffness. This made it possible not only to accommodate an increased number of lamellas but also to ensure stability and reliability of behavior on a surface cleared of snow and ice, significantly improving braking efficiency at the same time.
Highly efficient drainage system
This model is equipped with a well-thought-out drainage system, the high efficiency of which was achieved thanks to the elliptical shape of the water drainage channels and grooves. Such a shape helps to reduce the risk of turbulence when water passes through them, which significantly increases the circulation speed and, therefore, the overall efficiency of the drainage system. In addition to its high resistance to aquaplaning, the Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 2 tire is also distinguished by excellent snow evacuation parameters from the contact patch, which is much heavier than water. This was achieved due to the increased size of the drainage system elements.
New rubber compound
The new compound features a unique combination of silica and latest-generation polymers. Thanks to this, the tire has excellent elasticity even at very low temperatures. In addition, due to the improved composition of the compound, it was possible to significantly improve the main operational characteristics in any conditions. It is also worth noting the low content of polycyclic oils, which made it possible to significantly reduce rolling resistance and improve the environmental safety of tire production at the same time.
Low noise level
With its appearance, this tire has set new standards for reducing noise levels. The combination of tread blocks of different sizes, optimized arrangement of ribs, and carefully calculated interaction of tread elements made it possible to achieve a significant reduction in peak noise values.
