DescriptionDescription Dunlop SP Winter Sport 4D
Dunlop SP Winter Sport 4D is a friction-type tire designed for use in winter conditions. The novelty was created using a number of innovative technologies, which makes its functional properties the most practical and effective. This allows for better stability of the vehicle on winter roads, as well as improved handling and giving the driver more confidence in controlling the situation on the road.
Features of the Dunlop SP Winter Sport 4D tire
A distinctive feature of this model, which replaced the Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D, is a specially designed 4D Sipe System. It is an additional lamella that, when connected to the three others (used in the previous tire model), creates a block that provides better traction qualities of the tire at the point of contact. The increase in the number of lamellas allows for the creation of more engaging edges. In turn, such a structure of the tire tread provides better acceleration and braking characteristics of the vehicle, both on icy and snowy surfaces. Additionally, the 4D technology allows for a more even distribution of pressure on the tires, thereby improving the handling of the vehicle even when driving in extreme conditions.
The internal parts of the tread blocks have a saw-tooth shape. This allows for improved vehicle passability when driving on loose snow, as well as reducing the braking distance. Additionally, such a design gives the tire an additional aesthetically pleasing appearance.
It is also important to note the special functional composition of the rubber, which includes special polymeric compounds that do not allow the rubber to "freeze". This fact allows the use of Dunlop SP Winter Sport 4D tires even in the most severe frosts. In addition, the polymeric composition has dynamic activity, which allows changing the stiffness of the tire depending on the temperature of the environment. Therefore, this model feels great both on snow and on wet asphalt. The polymer composition allows reducing rolling resistance due to the removal of excess moisture from the point of contact through its pores.
The Dunlop SP Winter Sport 4D tire also has an excellent design that gives any car an additional visual "aggressiveness" effect.

I took a lot of time choosing winter tires for myself. I have an Accord Tourer S with standard size 235/45/18, but I couldn't find the right fit in this size. Instead, I opted for 235/50/18 101W XL, which fit perfectly but sacrificed a bit of handling. However, the ride height increased and the steering became much easier. I thought it wouldn't make a big difference, but it does. I'm an aggressive driver who

I'm cruising on my E55AMG with a 245/40 R18 tire size.
All I can say is that, yes, the 4D is quiet, soft (a bit too much so), and comfortable.
That's where the advantages end. Dry road: When slamming on the brakes, the tire starts to whine before the ABS kicks in, and the stopping distance is longer. When starting from a standstill with the "pedal to- Vehicle:

To be honest, these tires are quite good for the city, which is well-maintained, and they perform well on both dry and wet roads at low temperatures. I've also driven on them in the snow up to the bumper, where they start to slip a bit, and they can pull to one side on ice if there's a slope involved, but skidding is manageable. As for durability, I've only had one season, so I can't say much, but if they continue
