Despite the brand's British origins and its affiliation with Goodyear, the summer tire Dunlop SP Sport Maxx 050+ was developed in the Far East and was initially intended for Asian markets. At the same time, it is positioned by the manufacturer as a flagship model, which means that its design includes a number of expensive technical solutions that have provided it with high operational characteristics.
4D Nano Design Technology
One of such solutions is the 4D Nano Design technology. Behind the "loud" name lies the tire compound, the composition of which is distinguished by a very high content of silica, as well as special elastomers. This allows the tread to fit as closely as possible to the road surface, as well as change its elasticity depending on the temperature of the external environment, while maintaining its optimal level. As a result, not only the contact patch is increased, but also the traction on a wet road is improved.
Increased resistance to aquaplaning
The tread pattern of this tire contains several longitudinal drainage grooves. With the exception of one located in the shoulder area, all of them have a very significant internal volume. This allows the tread to effectively drain almost any amount of water, thereby preventing the occurrence of aquaplaning even at high speeds.
As for the narrow drainage groove in the shoulder area on the outside of the tread, its size is due to a slightly different functionality. In addition to draining water, this element, when maneuvering and turning, creates a so-called "edge effect", which improves traction with the road in such driving modes.
Reliable and predictable behavior in any situation
The breaker located directly under the tread has a design with an increased number of layers, up to three. This, in combination with the optimized tread profile shape, allows the dimensions and configuration of the contact patch to remain unchanged, regardless of the level and direction of the acceleration forces. As a result, the behavior of the car becomes reliable and predictable in any situation.
