The Dunlop SP Sport FM800 summer tire has a rare combination of relatively low cost and high technical characteristics. Another of its features is that during its development, special attention was paid to ensuring maximum grip on wet roads and sporty handling. At the same time, it was possible to improve these operational properties without compromising other characteristics, which is one of the results of using new technologies and materials in the creation of this model.
Improved traction in rainy conditions
The rubber compound used in the manufacture of the tread of this tire is characterized by a very high content of silica. It was possible to increase the amount of this component due to the use of modern polymers in its composition. In addition to the homogeneity of the compound, they provide increased strength of the tread when stretched, which allows it to withstand prolonged movement at high speeds without any problems. At the same time, the increased silica content allows the tire to fit very tightly to the road surface, which, in turn, increases the size of the contact patch and, as a consequence, improves traction. This feature is especially pronounced on cold, wet roads.
Another technical solution that gives the tire improved traction on wet roads is the design of its tread pattern. It contains four very spacious drainage grooves. With their help, the tread intensively removes water from under the contact patch, leaving it almost dry.

The next important feature of this model is the design of the shoulder zones of its tread, as well as the construction of the breaker located directly under it. The edges of the tread pattern contain many massive transverse blocks. The large size and perpendicular arrangement of these elements give the tire stability when maneuvering. In turn, the breaker is distinguished by the presence of an additional third layer, made, like the other two, from synthetic cord. This significantly increases the stiffness of the "substrate", which ensures that the contact patch remains unchanged in shape and size.
