The winter passenger non-studded tire Dunlop GrandTrek SJ5, released by the world-famous English manufacturer, is designed for many models of high-cross-country vehicles. Despite the lack of studs, this model provides reliable and safe movement on snowy and icy roads.
The tire is equipped with a tread featuring a symmetrical directional pattern of a combined type. Each of the five longitudinal ribs of the tread consists of a multitude of individually standing blocks. In the center of the tread, there is a row of wide blocks with a polygonal arrow-shaped form. Thanks to this solution, it was possible to provide the tire with high efficiency of acceleration and braking, especially on slippery surfaces. Additionally, the large width of the blocks and the relatively small distance between them made it possible to reduce rolling resistance and improve directional stability.
Each of the two other central ribs consists of two rows of individually standing blocks with a complex polygonal shape. The numerous sharp edges formed by them provide traction with a snowy and icy surface in all directions. The shoulder areas of the tread also have a block structure. The blocks of the shoulder areas, which are massive in size and have a large height, work in deep snow, similar to the lugs of special off-road tires, which significantly expands the capabilities of the Dunlop GrandTrek SJ5 tire in overcoming complex sections.
The drainage system of this model is highly efficient. Thanks to the block structure of the tread pattern, it was possible to provide a large number of longitudinal and transverse channels. This allows the drainage system to effectively remove water and slush from the contact patch, and when overcoming complex sections, it minimizes the risk of the tread clogging with snow, sand, and dirt.
Main features of the Dunlop GrandTrek SJ5 tire
- Optimized design of the directional symmetrical tread pattern provides reliable traction in any weather conditions;
- A large number of blocks, thanks to which the tire demonstrates excellent traction characteristics on snow;
- Multiple S-shaped lamellas form numerous sharp edges, effectively gripping icy surfaces, which made it possible to do without studs;
- The rubber compound with silicon-containing components remains elastic even at low temperatures.
