The summer tire Dunlop Direzza DZ102 is the result of a search for a compromise between "energy efficiency" and sportiness, both in handling and in external appearance, which has always distinguished the products of the famous British brand. But since the development was carried out by specialists from the company Goodyear, using the latest technologies of the North American tire giant, the balance of operational properties was still found.
Aggressive tread pattern
Externally, this model is distinguished by a rather aggressive tread pattern, which, upon closer inspection, differs in quite high efficiency, both in terms of traction properties and fuel economy. This was achieved due to a significant increase in the size of all five longitudinal tread ribs. It is this, combined with numerous drainage grooves located at an acute angle to the direction of movement, that gives the tread an impressive external appearance. At the same time, these elements significantly increase the resistance to aquaplaning, directing water into one of the nearby longitudinal drainage grooves. Their location at an acute angle and against the direction of movement greatly accelerates this process.
The second "plus" of such a tread pattern design is the large contact patch area. It was further increased due to the small curvature of the tread profile, and the constancy of its size is achieved largely due to the rigidity of all its elements.
Increased silica content
A significant part of the numerous advantages of this model is ensured by the physical and chemical properties of the rubber compound of its tread. The majority of the compound composition is represented by silica, which improves the traction properties of the tire on a wet road, and also reduces fuel consumption and gives the ride additional softness. It was possible to increase the share of this component due to polymers that provide high strength of molecular bonds between all the chemical substances used in the production of the rubber compound. This increases its strength against rupture, which, in turn, provides the tread with reliable protection of integrity under the continuous influence of centrifugal acceleration forces.
Excellent high-speed stability
One of the characteristic features of the Dunlop Direzza DZ102 tire is its excellent stability of traction properties when driving at high speeds. This is achieved not only due to the use of wide longitudinally arranged rigid ribs in the tread design. The tire's carcass makes a much greater contribution to ensuring stability. It is distinguished not only by a multi-layer structure but also by the use of cords made using the so-called "seamless" winding technology. In addition to the absence of seams and joints, it significantly increases the density of the cord threads, and with it, the ability of the tire to maintain its original shape under the influence of dynamic deformation.
