Description Cooper Discoverer A/TW
This model is one of the novelties of the North American company, known primarily as a manufacturer of tires for off-road vehicles. It is for this category of vehicles that the Cooper Discoverer A/TW is intended. Its key feature is the ability to operate on any type of coverage and in any climatic conditions, including in winter. At the same time, this model demonstrates very high performance due to the use in its design of the experience accumulated by the North American manufacturer in this field over the decades.
Toothed profile of the sidewalls of the tread blocks
The letter W in the name of this model is the capital letter in the word winter. It was used not by chance, since during its development, the North American tire makers paid special attention to ensuring maximum traction in winter conditions. One of the solutions aimed at achieving this goal is the toothed profile of the side walls of the tread blocks, as well as the significant distance between them. The combination of such design features allows the tread to hold snow, thereby creating a so-called "wafer effect". This significantly improves traction on snowy roads, providing excellent traction characteristics on them.
Increased traction on ice
Another reason for the appearance of the letter W in the name of this tire is the presence of several thousand additional traction edges formed by lamellas. These miniature elements, opening, penetrate through the water film on the surface of the ice, providing reliable traction with it due to their multitude. At the same time, the location of the lamellas at small angles relative to the direction of movement gives the traction properties additional stability.
In addition, it is impossible not to note the wavy shape of the lamella walls. When they open, this feature limits the transverse mobility of the tread blocks, which leads to an improvement in directional stability and prevents the occurrence and development of skidding on slippery roads.
Two-layer tread
Some of the technologies used in the design of this tire were borrowed from passenger car models of the North American company. One of them is the two-layer tread design. Its lower layer is made of a compound with a high degree of stiffness. This "substrate" increases the stability and stability of the tire when moving at high speed, and also prevents the occurrence and development of uneven wear, improves resistance to punctures and cuts.
Reinforced breaker
Being intended for off-road vehicles, this model differs from its analogs for ordinary passenger cars with a much more robust design. Its basis is the Cooper Discoverer A/TW carcass, entirely made of multi-layer steel cord. A similar design in terms of resistance to aggressive mechanical stress is also distinguished by the breaker located directly under the tread. It also contains several layers of steel cord, on top of which there is an additional nylon cord. This significantly improves several important operational properties of this model. First of all, it is excellent reliability and resistance to punctures and cuts. In addition, the use of a combined breaker design improves the tire's performance on the highway, reduces fuel consumption, increases payload capacity and resistance to uneven wear.
Improved traction properties on any roads
The tread pattern of this model has good performance both on highways and on dirt roads. This is due to its design, which is well adapted to any roads. On the highway, its effectiveness is ensured by the longitudinal arrangement of the tread blocks, which, due to their location, form five edges during movement.
In turn, the traction properties on dirt roads are ensured by the multiplicity of tread blocks. At the same time, their significant width and transverse arrangement in the shoulder areas, as well as the large size of the drainage grooves, improve passability on sand and mud.
In this regard, it is impossible not to note the zigzag shape of both longitudinal and transverse drainage grooves. In combination with their significant width and depth of the tread itself, this allows it to be intensively cleaned of soil particles and stones that are hammered into it.
Main features of the Cooper Discoverer A/TW tire
- the toothed profile of the sidewalls of the tread blocks increases the traction properties of the tread on snowy roads;
- improved traction on ice, more reliable and predictable handling at high speeds, thanks to numerous wavy lamellas;
- a two-layer tread design with a rigid base layer and an elastic outer layer, which allows the tire to demonstrate softness on the go, good handling on the highway, high resistance to uneven wear and fuel efficiency;
- a reinforced carcass design, entirely made of multi-layer steel cord, provides high reliability during off-road operation;
- excellent performance, both on paved and dirt roads, thanks to a universal tread pattern with a large number of individual blocks and five longitudinal edges.
