DescriptionDescription Continental ContiWinterContact TS 850
The non-studded tire Continental ContiWinterContact TS 850 is one of the latest developments of the German tire giant. Initially, this model was created for winter conditions in European countries. However, the excellent qualities of the tire, demonstrated by it in numerous tests, allow it to be used in countries with a more severe winter climate, which undoubtedly includes Russia. At the initial stage of sales, the tire is offered in 27 sizes from 15-16 inches. Depending on the size, the tire has a speed index of T, H or V.
Compared to previous models, the new Continental ContiWinterContact TS850 stands out for its improved traction on any winter surface, higher braking efficiency on wet asphalt, excellent handling characteristics, low rolling resistance, and high wear resistance. Such obvious superiority was made possible by the V-shaped directional symmetrical tread pattern, which has undergone significant changes. German tire makers were able to significantly increase the number of traction edges, which allowed for optimal traction on snow. At the same time, rolling resistance even decreased due to the optimization of the shape and arrangement of tread blocks.
The new model is distinguished by a large number of rectangular blocks. At the same time, these blocks are arranged at a significant angle to the direction of movement, which made it possible to increase the traction force on a snowy surface. At the same time, the blocks located in the shoulder areas of the tread are arranged at a right angle to the direction of movement. This design solution was intended to increase the effectiveness of braking on snow. In addition, the surface of each block has a large number of lamellas, which, by creating additional traction edges, provide more reliable traction on ice, and due to the increased stiffness of the blocks, on asphalt as well.
Main features of Continental ContiWinterContact TS850
- An increased number of blocks and lamellas improve braking efficiency and handling on any winter surfaces;
- Reduced stopping distance, both on snow and ice, and on asphalt, thanks to multiple drainage channels and special lamellas;
- A high level of comfort and excellent fuel economy are ensured by the optimized construction of the carcass and the updated composition of the rubber mixture.

Continental ContiWinterContact TS 850 205/55 R16 91T
Second season on this tire. On a Volvo S60 sedan. Very satisfied with the quality and braking characteristics. Very good handling on dry and snow/ice roads, the car goes straight, excellent handling. Of course, thanks to Volvo for this. Prior to this, I had Continentals from another brand, all was also super.

Hi! There were such tires on the Focus, where they really stood out. In Crimea, there is almost no snow, and when I was returning from Simferopol to Sevastopol in the rain, it started to get cold sharply and the rain turned to ice right before my eyes. I only felt that when I started braking, the ABS was crunching, and the car was still moving. I carefully stopped on the side of the road, among others like me, gathered my strength and

The first snow fell, but the roads were still clear as a major traffic jam was brewing on the main road, so I decided to take a shortcut through the courtyards. I needed to roll down a small hill and ride up a slightly steeper one, as I rolled down, I started sliding towards parked cars, shifted into neutral and slowly slid into a depression, turned around and got back on the smaller hill without any issues, under the snow there was hardly any ice.

The tires took second place in tests for braking efficiency on dry and wet tracks, as well as handling on a dry track and noise level. Despite the smooth ride, the tires respond very quickly to steering wheel turns and hold their trajectory well in long corners under load.
In the wet handling test, Continental became the best, as they willingly "dive" into a turn and reliably maintain traction on the rear axle for precise following of the chosen course. When sharply accelerating, the tires skid, but Continental withstands greater loads than most competitors. Given this, it's no surprise that Continental won the test on the 60-meter circular track.
In addition to everything else, Continental also took third place in the rolling resistance tests, where they conceded only 3% to the completely new Dunlop. In the snow, the results of Continental were the weakest in the test, but the differences were again not so significant.
