The winter tire Continental ContiVikingContact 6 ContiSilent is a special version of the same "passenger" model. It differs in a higher level of acoustic comfort. In all other respects, both tires are identical, characterized by excellent traction and handling on snow, grip on dry pavement.
Acoustic Comfort
One of the key features of this model is the reduced noise level. To a large extent, this is due to the ContiSilent technology used in this tire. Its essence lies in the application of a thin layer of polyurethane foam to the inside of the tread. The lightweight material with a porous structure effectively absorbs vibrations that occur when the tire rotates under the influence of rolling forces. As a consequence, the noise level when moving is significantly reduced, both inside and outside the vehicle.
Tread with a Composite Structure
The tire's tread is made using two compounds. Its running part is made of a more elastic rubber mixture. This allows the tire to more closely follow the irregularities of the road surface, which improves its grip, especially at low temperatures. The inner "base" layer is made of a more rigid compound. It reduces rolling resistance and wear rate, increases the accuracy and stability of handling, giving this process a high level of comfort, especially in complex road situations.
Asymmetrical Pattern with Functional Zones
The tread's running part is designed in an asymmetrical design with a "signature" for German brand tires, dividing into functional zones. Each of them improves certain driving and operational qualities, either enhancing them or interacting with each other. The shoulder area on the outside is one of these zones.
The Adaptive Twin Block technology is used in their design. This part of the tread contains large twin blocks. Having high resistance to the action of lateral acceleration forces, they help the tire maintain grip when maneuvering and cornering. On the steering wheel, transparent feedback is provided, which simplifies the management process, making it comfortable.
The central part of the tread's running part contains many inclined small blocks. These elements, forming a large number of edges perpendicular to the contact edges, provide high traction on snow. The blocks in the inner shoulder zone additionally increase stability on snowy surfaces, increasing the length of the contact edges.
