The Bridgestone Blizzak DM-Z2 passenger tire is one of the novelties of the well-known Japanese concern, and at the same time, the second generation of one of its most popular all-season models. To surpass it in all characteristics, Japanese tire makers had to use a number of advanced technologies and materials in its design.
New version of Multi-Cell compound
One of the innovations was the updated version of the Multi-Cell rubber compound. Its main difference from its predecessor is the reduced size of the micropores to 0.6 mm. This made it possible to significantly increase their number, thanks to which the tread began to absorb much more water from the icy surface, which, in turn, led to an improvement in traction with it.
Increased number of lamellas
In addition, this model differs from its predecessor in an increased number of lamellas. This was made possible by the three-dimensional design of their walls. It does not allow the lamellas to close under load, and also increases the stiffness of the blocks, limiting their mobility in all directions. Thanks to this, both traction properties on ice and handling are improved.
Optimized profile shape of the shoulder areas
Another change compared to the previous model is the optimized profile shape of the shoulder areas. It provides a more dense fit of this part of the tread to the road surface, which, in turn, led to an improvement in traction when maneuvering, as well as when braking.

- reliability and predictability when maneuvering due to 3D-lamellas, which not only form a multitude of additional traction edges, but also increase the stiffness of the blocks;

- an optimized tread design with a large number of diagonal grooves is distinguished by excellent performance in any road conditions.
