The Continental RT20 model was developed for specialized equipment - from front loaders to telescopic handlers. Transitioning from an asphalt surface to wet soil, maneuvers with a full load, and the constant risk of punctures from construction debris - all of this was taken into account in the tyre. Here, an enhanced carcass, adaptive tread pattern, and new-generation rubber compound are combined to keep the machine effective in any field.
Tread pattern and its geometric parameters
The basis of the pattern is massive blocks of different sizes, the result of multi-variant modeling. When moving on a solid surface, the main guiding function is taken over by the practically continuous central "edge" formed by the blocks approaching each other in the axial zone.
The elements are arranged diagonally with a variable pitch - this is a key technique for reducing resonant vibrations and noise, as well as for improving traction properties on loose surfaces. The variable pitch disrupts the periodicity of the impacts of the tread lugs on the road, reducing operator fatigue and extending the service life.
Contact patch
One of the main achievements of the model is the increased contact area. This was achieved through the optimization of block stiffness and shoulder areas. When loaded, the blocks deform in such a way that the contact patch takes on an almost rectangular shape with clear edges. This gives a dual effect:
- reduction of the intensity of the impact on the soil;
- minimization of wheelspin - the even distribution of forces allows the realization of the entire available torque without loss of traction.
Powerful carcass
The tyre features an enhanced construction with several layers of high-strength steel cord, laid at special angles that provide an optimal ratio of radial and lateral stiffness. An additional layer between the tread and the breaker works as a shock absorber: it dampens local stresses, not allowing them to reach the power base.
