The summer motorcycle tire Dunlop Sportmax Sportsmart, designed for Hypersport class motorcycles, has been on the market for quite some time, since 2010. However, even today, its technical characteristics remain very relevant, thanks to the application of several technologies in its design - MultiTread, JLB, and NTEC. This technological "triumvirate" allowed this model to become the best motorcycle tire in the year of its debut, as it provided excellent adaptability to various road conditions, combined with an exceptionally long service life.
NTEC
The popularity of the NTEC technology is due to the popularity of track-day entertainment. It is one of the most exciting ways to spend a weekend, riding on a racing track at your own pleasure. Unlike regular "civilian" conditions, these operating conditions imply the use of different tires. To eliminate the need for a motorcyclist to purchase a second set, the NTEC technology was invented. This technological innovation represents a system for regulating the pressure inside the tire. I.e., for moving on regular roads, it helps to reduce the pressure inside the tire to the values recommended by the manufacturer, and for track-day, on the contrary, it increases it to achieve maximum performance.
JLB
The JLB abbreviation is composed of the capital letters of the English phrase Jointless Belt, which in real life means the technology of seamless winding of a steel cord. At the same time, the scheme of arrangement of steel threads was created using computer-aided design tools, which made it possible to do without millions of kilometers of natural tests, while ensuring a practically ideal balance of characteristics.
Thanks to the seamless winding, it was possible to minimize the deformation changes of the central part of the tread when moving at high speed. Due to this, the contact patch of the Dunlop Sportmax Sportsmart retains its shape and size in any conditions, which, in turn, led to a significant improvement in almost all working characteristics of the tire.
MultiTread
Years of participation in the world superbike series as a tire supplier have allowed Dunlop to develop a number of technologies for "civilian" models. One of them was MultiTread, the main feature of which is the use of several rubber mixture compositions in the manufacture of the tread.
The central part of the tread has a rigid rubber mixture composition. Due to this, it was possible to improve the directional stability on straight sections, as well as increase the effectiveness of braking and the service life of the tread.
In turn, the side parts of the tread pattern are made from a more elastic rubber mixture. Thanks to the increased elasticity of the shoulder zones, the tire demonstrates reliable grip when the motorcycle is at significant angles of inclination.
