The Firestone FD600 cargo tire is versatile in application, but at the same time, it is a specialized product designed for specific operating conditions. This model was developed for buses, trucks, and special equipment used in urban and suburban transportation. It can be installed on the steering and driving axles, and its tread shows good performance even on gravel roads.
Traction in any road conditions
This model is characterized by stable traction properties in any road conditions. It is provided by the design of the tread. It is open in the shoulder areas, where the blocks are separated by a significant distance. This allows for confident starts, acceleration, and deceleration without problems with traction and stability, especially on wet roads.
In turn, confidence on dry roads is provided by the closed design of the tread center. It contains two rows of blocks, but they are located so close to each other that they form a very wide longitudinal rib. It increases the size of the contact area with the road surface and accelerates the transmission of lateral forces to the bearing elements of the carcass, providing the tire with operability and stability when driving at high speeds.
Effective drainage system
The "block" design of the tread provides the tire with a branched network of longitudinal and transverse grooves. The large number of such elements gives the drainage process exceptional speed, thereby preventing aquaplaning, regardless of the speed of movement.
2-layer tread
Some of the technical solutions of the tire were borrowed from the "passenger" models of this brand. One of them was the use of a 2-layer tread. The physical properties of the compound from which the inner part is made differ significantly from the characteristics of the tread layer. It is less elastic, but at the same time, it has increased thermal conductivity. The stiffness of the "base" allows reducing rolling resistance and improving handling. In turn, the thermal conductivity allows reducing the heating of the tread. This, in addition to increasing its service life, also reduces rolling resistance, improving fuel efficiency.
The upper layer of the tread, which contacts the road surface, is made of a rubber mixture with completely different properties. It has increased elasticity, which allows the tire to tightly envelop irregularities, thereby improving traction with the road surface. In addition, the compound contains a number of components that provide resistance to wear of the tread, which increases its service life.
Increased traction
When installed on the driving axle, the tire provides full realization of the engine's torque even on wet roads. This is ensured by the design of the shoulder areas. The blocks contained in them are arranged in such a way that when moving, the edges formed by them have a significant length and are curved, which significantly improves traction, especially on slippery roads.
Main features of Firestone FD600
- confident behavior in any road conditions is ensured by the openness of the design in the shoulder areas and the closedness in the center;
- resistance to aquaplaning at any speed due to the large number of drainage grooves;
- the 2-layer tread reduces rolling resistance, tire heating, while improving handling and stability when accelerating and braking.
