Description Barum BD21
Despite the fact that the Barum BD21 truck tire has a fairly narrow specialization, it has a very wide range of applications. These two contradictory qualities are due to the fact that this model is designed for operation throughout the year on the driving axles of trucks of various purposes.
"All-season" tread pattern
The Czech tire manufacturers, developing this model, apparently, tried to apply simple, but extremely effective solutions. That's why the Barum BD21 has a symmetrical non-directional tread pattern with an S-shaped scheme of element placement. This is largely due to the universal characteristics of the tread with such a design, which it demonstrates on the most diverse types of coverage. It is these qualities that the manufacturers wanted to give to this tire.
The tread pattern consists of four longitudinal ribs separated from each other by longitudinal drainage grooves. Since the tire is designed for installation on the driving axle of a truck, each of the longitudinal ribs of its tread is a series of individually standing blocks of massive size and complex polygonal shape. The combination of large dimensions and such a configuration, on the one hand, allowed for a more even distribution of external weight on the contact patch, and on the other hand, endowed the tire with excellent traction and coupling properties. After all, a multitude of blocks, especially with a large number of angles and faces, in the process of movement, forms an countless number of coupling edges. To this should be added a fairly large distance between the blocks, which allows the tread to first retain dirt, sand, or snow, and then quickly get rid of it. This design feature significantly increases the coupling properties on the most diverse types of coverage.
Optimized shoulder area structure
The shoulder areas of the tread have a slightly different structure than its central part. This applies not only to the size, but also to the shape, size, and arrangement of the blocks that form them. First of all, the shoulder blocks are noticeably larger than similar elements in the central part. In addition, their shape is closer to rectangular, which, in combination with the previous feature, provides the tire with several important qualities. In particular, thanks to this solution, the Czech specialists managed to optimize the distribution of external weight on the contact patch, while its shape remains stable in any conditions. In addition to increased strength, this allowed the tire to behave stably and predictably, which made the process of managing a truck much easier.
Main features of the Barum BD21 tire
- the tire is designed for installation and operation throughout the year on the driving axles of trucks of various purposes and capacities;
- the large depth of the tread and its block structure provide the tire with excellent traction and coupling properties on the most diverse types of coverage;
- low noise and vibration level, thanks to the arrangement of all tread elements with a different pitch.
