Tires on Red Flag H7 (Ред Флаг)

The mid-size sedan Red Flag H7 was in the production range of the Chinese brand from 2012 to 2021. The model was better known under the Hongqi brand. The name was used in relation to cars for the domestic market of China. The model turned out to be iconic for the FAW concern, since it was with it that the return to the segment of premium representative sedans began. The H7 was created as a competitor to the products of the German "troika", namely, in the extended versions, the production of which was localized in China.

Differences from other models of the brand

The sedan presented in 2012 fundamentally differed from its predecessors, which were focused exclusively on operation in government agencies, becoming the first mass-produced model of the brand in the "premium" segment. It was for this reason that the design was devoid of a significant part of conservatism. Against the background of the then-flagship L5 model, it stood out with "European" proportions. Many elements of the exterior were created with a view to German representative sedans, however, the corporate radiator grille and the red decorative element on the hood preserved the brand's recognizability.

From a technical point of view, the H7 also differed from many previous models of the brand. The basis was the Toyota Crown S210 platform, while the old models of the brand often used more outdated solutions, including a classic frame. Thanks to this, the H7 turned out to be noticeably more modern in terms of handling, comfort, and safety.

After the 2016 restyling, the sedan received a more aggressive front-end design with an enlarged radiator grille and a fully LED optics. Against the background of the early models of the brand, this looked especially modern. It was the H7 that became the first mass-produced sedan of FAW, which began to gradually move away from the image of exclusively "government" equipment.

Platform and design features

The use of the "Toyota Crown" platform provided the model with a longitudinal engine arrangement and rear-wheel drive - a rare solution for Chinese sedans of that period. Thanks to this, the H7 favorably distinguished itself from most of the front-wheel drive competitors of local production. The front suspension is made according to a 2-link scheme, and a multi-link design is used at the back. The engineers bet on the smoothness of the ride, so the suspension is tuned quite softly. On long waves and poor asphalt, the sedan demonstrated behavior typical of large representative models. The body received a reinforced structure with the use of high-strength steel and laser welding.
After restyling, the engineers improved the noise insulation, reconfigured the steering, and modernized the braking system. As a result, the updated version was perceived as significantly more expensive than the early versions.

At the start of sales, the car was offered immediately with several power units. The base was a 1.8-liter turbo engine with 188 horsepower and 260 Nm. At the "medium" level of equipment, a 2-liter power unit with a turbocharger with a capacity of 204 horsepower and a torque of 260 Nm was installed under the hood. The top versions offered an "atmospheric" V6 with a volume of 3.0 liters, which developed 231 horsepower and about 300 Nm. In addition to them, a 2.5-liter V6, intended for government agencies, was present in the engine range. All power units were variants of Toyota engines.

Interior and equipment level

The sedan's salon meets the requirements of the "premium" segment, but without direct copying from European competitors. The front console stands out for its massiveness and horizontally expanding visual width lines. Its central element is the display of the multimedia system, the diagonal of which, depending on the configuration, is 7 or 8 inches. Already at the "medium" level of equipment, there were leather trim, electric seat drives, seat ventilation, and multi-zone climate control. Particular attention was paid to the second row. In the Chinese market, it was the comfort of the second-row passengers that was considered one of the most important criteria for a representative sedan. Therefore, the car received increased legroom, a separate climate control unit, and a developed central armrest. In the expensive versions, adaptive cruise control, all-around cameras, a premium-class audio system, and a panoramic roof were used.

Standard is a large number of disks with a diameter of 17 to 20 inches, along with tires, the profile size of which ranges from 45 to 55%. In all versions, this sedan was distinguished by good smoothness of the ride, but with the possibility of flexibly approaching the issue of balance handling. Wide opportunities for this are provided in the "Mosavtoshina" online store, where you can conveniently select both standard sizes for comfort on bad roads and more "sporty" options for more even road surfaces.
