The name of the LEVC automotive brand is an acronym composed of the phrase London Electric Vehicle Company Limited, the name of a British company that manufactures the famous black London taxis. Currently, it is a subsidiary of the Chinese conglomerate Geely.

History of formation

Geely's participation in the development and production of cars for London taxis began in 2006, when the Chinese conglomerate became a partner of the British company Manganese Bronze Holdings. The agreement provided for the creation of a joint venture for the production of cars in China. Three years later, Geely revised the partnership strategy, becoming the main shareholder of Manganese Bronze Holdings. By 2012, the British company had completely come under the control of its former partner due to a lack of financial resources. In 2013, the new owner carried out a deep restructuring of assets. The production of London taxis and components is carried out at production sites in Shanghai. In turn, the design of these cars is carried out by China Euro Vehicle Technology, a subsidiary of Geely, which is located in Gothenburg, Sweden. Another result of the restructuring was 480 million pounds sterling, which was directed to the creation of a new taxi, which is an electric car with a very large range by modern standards.

Released models

Currently, the LEVC product line consists of three models, one of which is the TX. The car is created on a unique platform, which is a glued aluminum chassis. A power unit is used, which is a combination of a traction electric motor, a permanently rechargeable battery, and a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine developed by Volvo. At the same time, several operating modes can be used. One of them involves using only the traction electric motor and the battery. In this mode, the TX can travel up to 130 km. The operation of the gasoline engine as a generator increases the range to 600 km. At the same time, the possibility of driving the wheels exclusively from the internal combustion engine is preserved. In this case, fuel consumption is about 7 liters per 100 km. Based on the TX, a van called the VN5 was created, which is equipped with exactly the same power unit, but lacks the ability to transport passengers. No less interesting model in the lineup is the L380, a fairly large minivan with a length of about 5.3 meters. It is equipped with an alternative traction electric motor from Viridi E-Mobility Technology, which works in conjunction with a battery from CATL. The range is up to 600 km. At the same time, the charging time from 10 to 80% takes no more than 30 minutes, and in 10 minutes, a range of up to 200 km is provided. It is also worth noting the presence of several versions of the salon, in the 6-seat version it has three rows of seats, and 4 rows of seats for the 8-seat version.
