The Beginning of the Story

It all started in 1947, when the Nanchang Auto Repair Factory was opened. Initially, only repair work was carried out here, but due to active industrialization, the enterprise was reoriented to produce spare parts for various cars. Several lines were created for this purpose. In addition, work was underway to produce its own full-fledged car, and even two prototypes were created: a truck and a three-wheeled car. However, the general decline in the country did not allow them to reach mass production.

In 1962, the enterprise was renamed the Jiangxi Auto Parts factory (due to its main activity). One of its clients was the Nanjing Automobile manufacturer, through which the engineers got the drawings of the GAZ-51 (a Soviet truck). And five years later, the company mastered the production of its own transport based on this truck. It was called the Jinggangshan JX130. The model turned out to be not very successful, and besides, it was expensive. Therefore, the demand for it was low. This led to bankruptcy in 1980. However, an experienced manager who was invited managed to get the enterprise out of debt by optimizing production, establishing supplies of quality components, which immediately affected the overall reliability of the produced vehicles. As a result, by 1984, the company not only paid off its debts but also made a profit.

Mergers

To further develop, it was necessary to obtain a corresponding license to produce vehicles. And in China at that time, it was not easy to do so. Therefore, another path of development was found - a merger with the larger Nanjing Automobile manufacturer. This made it possible to continue the development path. However, the management understood that with one model, even with many modifications, it was difficult to compete even in the domestic market. Therefore, a solution was found - cooperation with the Japanese company Isuzu. Thanks to the acquired drawings, a new truck model appeared, which was inexpensive and reliable. This contributed to the growth and development of the enterprise.

In 1993, Jiangling Motors Co. was formed, which has survived to this day. Its next strategic partner was Ford, with whose support the assembly of the Ford Transit began in 1997.

Modern Times

The beginning of the new millennium marked the release of the Baodian pickup, which became a sales hit, first in the country and then beyond its borders. Note that since 2007, the model has been officially supplied to the territory of the Russian Federation. As for the European market, this and subsequent modifications of Landwind SUVs have been supplied there since 2005.

To this day, the company is actively developing its dealership network, both within the country and in many foreign states. This also applies to the Russian sector, where, in addition to SUVs, light commercial vehicles are widely represented, distinguished by their low price and unpretentiousness in maintenance.
