Tires on Foday Landfort (Фодау)

The mid-size SUV was produced from 2015 to 2020. The model was developed for export to countries in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa with a high demand for reliable transportation with a simple design and good maintainability. In its concept, the car was close to SUVs of that time, which in their properties became closer to classic crossovers, providing a high level of comfort on asphalt roads.

Crossover with a frame platform

The model was initially created as a versatile vehicle, oriented not only for use on rough terrain but also on roads with asphalt pavement. The manufacturer preserved all the classic attributes of SUVs, including, first and foremost, a ladder frame. It was borrowed from the Lion F22 pickup truck. The wheelbase is 2790 mm, the body length reaches 4771 mm, and the ground clearance exceeds 210 mm. Thanks to this, the SUV confidently feels on dirt roads and is capable of carrying seven passengers even on complex terrain.

The front suspension is independent on double wishbones with shock absorbers and springs, while a dependent design with a 5-link scheme is used at the back. Such an architecture is noticeably inferior to modern crossovers in terms of precision of reactions, however, it provides high reliability when fully loaded and moving on bad roads. A side effect of using such technical solutions was the relatively high mass of the model — depending on the version, its curb weight reached almost 2 tons.

Most of the produced instances had a "naturally aspirated" Mitsubishi 4G69S4N gasoline engine with a volume of 2.4 liters, developing 136 horsepower and 200 Nm. Its main advantage was considered to be the simplicity of the design and the wide spread of components. It was used in conjunction with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed "automatic". An alternative was a turbocharged diesel engine with a volume of 1.9 liters. Initially, its output was 136 horsepower and 300 Nm, but later a modified version with 150 horsepower and 350 Nm appeared. The base version offered rear-wheel drive only. For an additional fee, a part-time all-wheel-drive system with mechanical connection of the front wheels and a transfer case was available.

"Japanese" appearance

Along with technical components from Japanese "classmates", the body's appearance was taken. This is especially noticeable in the line of glazing, proportions, and a massive radiator grille extending to the front bumper. Such an approach had a positive effect on sales, as this external appearance was familiar to the target audience of this SUV.

After restyling, more modern LED optics elements appeared, the radiator grille was changed, and new interior trim options were introduced. At the same time, the manufacturer tried to improve the visual quality of the interior, although the model still lagged behind more expensive competitors in terms of material quality.

Seven-seat salon and equipment

One of the key arguments for buying the Landfort was its spaciousness. Depending on the configuration, the SUV could be 5- or 7-seat. The "galley" due to the features of the frame platform implied comfortable stay for a limited amount of time. The front console is designed in a typical style for Chinese SUVs of that time — a massive central tunnel, a massive console, and a large amount of silver decor. In early versions, a 7-inch multimedia display with AUX and DVD support was used. Later, more modern multimedia systems appeared. The top version added leatherette trim, climate control, rearview camera, electric seat adjustments, and keyless access.

Ergonomics remained typically utilitarian, with a vertical passenger seat and control placement that required getting used to. This was due to the commercial origin of the model, created on the basis of a utilitarian pickup truck, along with noise insulation and smoothness of the ride, which appeared only with significant loading of the salon and trunk. However, all these drawbacks almost completely disappeared when leaving the asphalt roads. This was largely due to the use of 17- and 18-inch discs in the factory configuration, on which tires with an increased profile height — 65 and 60%, respectively — were mounted. Such models stood out for their significant carrying capacity and resistance to shock mechanical impact. In the online store "Mosavtoshina" it is convenient to select both universal "road" wheels and "off-road" options for operation outside the asphalt.
