Despite the fact that the Derways brand is not distinguished by its popularity, it was this Russian company from the city of Cherkessk that became one of the first to establish close cooperation with Chinese automobile manufacturers.

Beginning

The history of the brand began in 2002, when the Derevy brothers founded an enterprise for small-unit assembly. And the first car assembled by this method was the Derways "Cowboy". It was based on the Romanian ARO, from which the suspension, transmission, brake system, etc. were taken. The production of the compact jeep continued for three years. Notably, it was popular and sales were constantly growing. But the bankruptcy of the Romanian enterprise put an end to further cooperation. As a result, the company was reoriented towards Chinese partners. As a result, the production facilities of Derways were used to assemble such "Chinese" cars as JAC, Chery, Great Wall, and a number of others.

Own developments

In parallel with the small-unit assembly to order, the company was also engaged in the production of its own cars. So, after the "Cowboy" in 2005, the Derways Shuttle - a massive jeep that stood out for its dimensions - was introduced. The novelty was met fairly coolly and did not receive proper popularity. Despite good handling, maintainability, and low fuel consumption for a car of this class, there were also disadvantages. Among them were poor build quality, susceptibility to corrosion, low noise insulation, and a very stiff suspension.

The next model was the Derways-233300 Plutus - a pickup that was introduced in 2006. During the same period, the company signed an agreement with Lifan for the assembly of their cars. Against the background of growth prospects, the enterprise was modernized, and in 2009, it made it possible to carry out a full cycle of assembly. At this time, the Lifan-7131A began to come off the assembly line.

Growth and bankruptcy

Due to close cooperation with Chinese manufacturers, a second assembly line was opened, which allowed the company to significantly expand its capabilities. This happened in 2010. At the same time, Derways engineers were carrying out their own developments, which resulted in the appearance of another novelty, the Haima 2. It was assumed that this would further strengthen the company's position. But the decline in sales of Chinese cars, which was observed over the next five years, forced the company to cut production in half. And in 2018, it ultimately led to the complete bankruptcy of the company.
