Tires on BMW Alpina (БМВ Алпина)

The history of BMW Alpina, a separate manufacturer and not part of the German automotive giant, began with an engine failure. A young man, having purchased an old Fiat 1500, was only able to drive it for 50 km before the engine broke down. However, being a student of mechanical engineering, the young man showed ingenuity by replacing the carburetor, modifying the exhaust system, and not only restoring the car's functionality but also increasing its engine power. He was very pleased with the result and decided to continue developing in this direction. Moreover, BMW itself contributed to this, as during the post-war period, when the financial crisis ended, the company began actively producing the BMW 1500 with a 1.5-liter engine and 75 horsepower. Overall, the car was well-received by the public, but its only weakness was the low engine power, which was later improved by installing a more powerful 1.8-liter engine. But what about those who already owned the weaker versions? This is where Burkard Bovensiepen's sharp mind came into play. He modernized the BMW engine by installing two Weber carburetors with a shortened collector, resulting in owners getting the same 90 horsepower with a 1.5-liter engine. The young engineer's work impressed the management of the Bavarian company, which, after conducting a series of studies, was convinced of the reliability and validity of the new improvements. As a result, it was decided to officially service the cars that Burkard had worked on. In turn, he continued his activity and began modernizing the version with a 1.8-liter engine. All this led to the registration of Alpina in 1965, the hiring of 8 workers, and the opening of its own workshop. A significant step in development was 1966, when a new model from the Bavarian manufacturer, the 2002, was released. Now, the modifications affected deeper layers, and the resulting car had completely new technical characteristics.

Racing

Despite the popularity of improved cars, it was clear that without real achievements, it would be difficult to promote them on the global market. Therefore, it was decided to participate in local and international sports competitions, where the Alpina team achieved significant results, demonstrating the capability of their cars.

Collaboration with BMW

Seeing potential in the development of serial sports cars, BMW's management offered Burkard to lead this project. However, understanding that he couldn't do it alone, he invited Fritz Indra, a well-known engineer at the time, to join the team and lead the main parts of the project. Notably, the work was carried out in two directions: sports and environmental. The latter was relevant due to the authorities' desire to reduce the load from exhaust gases on the environment.

Change of Priorities

From 1978, the company redirected its activities to global car modernization, including engine replacement, exhaust systems, ignition, and more. As a result, the new cars became more dynamic and manageable. And from 1983, the company gained the status of an automobile manufacturer. After this, the company began to actively grow, offering not just modification kits but full-fledged cars. Just like any modern car, especially a sports one, Alpina's creations require good tires to unlock their potential. For this, we offer using the convenient search on the "Mosavtoshina" website.
