The development of the vehicle began in the late 1990s in conjunction with the North American company Chrysler. The frame platform and a significant part of the technical solutions were borrowed from the Jeep Cherokee with the XJ index, which was produced from 1984 to 1990. Due to the modernization of the frame, the Chinese off-road vehicle turned out to be significantly wider and longer than the original model, which made it possible to substantially expand its scope of application. Its payload capacity is 500 kilograms, and the interior space of the cabin is designed to transport up to 5 people at the same time. The windshield can be tilted onto the hood, and a tow hitch is installed in the rear, allowing, among other things, to tow artillery weapons with a mass of up to 500 kilograms.

The frame platform made it possible to significantly expand the number of versions, forming a whole line. In addition to the 5-door station wagon, there are 2-door modifications with a closed body, a 2-door pickup truck, and a 4-door off-road vehicle with an open top. There is a version with anti-bullet armor. Under the hood of the "military" modifications is a 3-liter inline diesel "four" with a turbocharger developed by Nissan. "Civilian" off-road vehicles are equipped with a 2.7-liter gasoline engine from the same Japanese company, as well as 2- and 2.4-liter engines from Mitsubishi, and a 2.8-liter diesel engine from Isuzu. All power units are combined only with a 5-speed manual transmission and a classic all-wheel drive system "par-time" with a rigidly connected front axle.
