Yokohama plant in Lipetsk
02 april 2012
On May 30, the long-awaited opening of the Yokohama plant in Lipetsk will take place. It became known that a branch was planned to be opened in Russia three and a half years ago, in 2008. The global economic crisis did not hinder the construction, and it was planned that in 2011, the production of Yokohama tires in our country would be launched. However, for unknown reasons, the commissioning of the plant was postponed several times. The opening ceremony was also postponed several times - and this despite the fact that since September last year, production at the new plant has actually been established.
According to RBC Daily's information in the Lipetsk region, this could have been caused by the fact that the general designer of the construction, Tebodein, and Yokohama, took a long time to agree with each other regarding the power grid capacity. However, both companies did not confirm the conflict option.
And now, finally, it became known that the grand opening of the Yokohama branch in Lipetsk will take place on May 30. According to the president of "Yokohama Rus" Junichi Okishima, this date was not chosen by chance: first of all, the management of the Japanese company hopes that it is in late spring that good weather will be established in Russia. Okishima also stated that he separates the launch of production and the official opening ceremony, and there is nothing terrible in the fact that at the end of May, the red ribbon will be cut near the already working plant. The commissioning of the plant took place at the end of last December, recall.
It is planned that the production capacity of the Russian Yokohama plant will be 1.4 million tires per year, with a subsequent increase to 3-4 million. The investment amount is estimated at 12 billion rubles.
The production of Yokohama automobile tires in Russia began with winter tires, and, according to the results of the analysis of the tire market, this is more than justified: at present, the Japanese company in the Russian market yields only to Nokian Tyres in this indicator.
