Yokohama develops eco-friendly tires for the Super Formula Championship
The Yokohama company has announced the continuation of supplies of its racing tires Advan for the Super Formula championship in Japan and the development of an environmentally friendly tire that will be presented in 2023.
Yokohama plans to use recycled rubber from tire waste and several natural compounds, such as silica from rice husks and oil from palm and orange peel, to produce new racing tires. According to Yokohama representatives, the selected materials do not have a negative impact on the characteristics of racing cars.
The eco-friendly tires will be tested by JRP on future formula cars, and the development of the 2023 control tire is expected to be completed by the end of the 2022 Super Formula season.
