Yokohama started production of 20-inch tires in India

Yokohama's Indian subsidiary has expanded its production capacity and started manufacturing 20-inch vehicle tires at its plant in Bahadurgarh (Haryana state), driven by growing demand for larger-sized tires in the domestic market amid increasing popularity of crossovers and expansion of the premium automotive segment.

Not so long ago, Yokohama also began producing 19-inch tires in India, and the company emphasizes that it intends to further expand its range of products adapted to the Indian market, strengthen its position in the country, and meet the changing needs of local motorists.

Larger-sized tires, such as the Yokohama Geolandar X-CV, are being produced at the plant, which are specifically designed for high-end crossovers and SUVs and combine an asymmetric tread pattern, improved silica-containing rubber compounds, and a two-layer sidewall construction. These tires are available nationwide through over 3,000 retail dealers.

"With the improvement of road infrastructure and the development of technology in the transportation sector, passenger cars are increasingly being equipped with larger-sized tires," said Gaurav Mahajan, head of the marketing department at Yokohama India. "Such tires not only improve handling but are also used with the most advanced braking systems, which increases the level of safety. By expanding our production capabilities in India, we are preparing for future changes in demand and will now be able to produce tires up to 24 inches in diameter."
