Yakutsk testing ground opened the winter tire testing season

The testing ground of the North-Eastern Federal University, a resident of the TOR "Yakutia", has opened the season of testing winter tires, and in 2025, one of the largest Russian tire distributors will conduct tests for the first time, reports DV-ROSS with reference to the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic (CRFEA).

In the press service of NEFU, they add that for the tests, ice and snow tracks were created, on which tires are tested according to a number of parameters, such as acceleration and braking efficiency, and their behavior at low temperatures is checked. The tests will be completed this week, after which a rating of tires best suited for the Far North will be compiled.

The customer company says that the NEFU testing ground is ideal for tire tests: "Here, unique natural conditions and the scientific and technical base of the North-Eastern Federal University have come together. There is everything necessary for conducting objective measurements and research, which is very important for us."

The director of the testing ground, Ivan Noev, notes that tire tests in the conditions of the Far North are very effective, but require significant preparation, and, for example, the ice track must be compacted only with clean filtered water to preserve the quality of sliding. "The conditions created on the testing ground meet this and other requirements that are imposed by tire manufacturers and European standards in general," he emphasized.

The testing ground was opened in 2019, and, as noted by Dmitry Borisov, the director of "CRFEA Yakutia", over the past time, it has become a full-fledged replacement for foreign sites, and its services are used by both Russian and foreign tire and automobile manufacturers. Earlier, tests in Yakutia were conducted by such tire companies as the Japanese Bridgestone and the Russian "Cordiant".

"To successfully implement the project, CRFEA provided the testing ground with a preferential rent of land plots with a total area of 72.5 hectares," Borisov said, adding that "in relation to the resident, the tax benefits and administrative preferences provided for by the TOR regime are also in effect. The amount of investment in the project was around 70 million rubles."
