Continental has introduced a new tire, the Continental Conti HAU 5, specifically designed for use on city buses and, for the first time in this segment, features the (EV and checkmark) marking, indicating that it has been optimized with the characteristics of electric and hybrid vehicles in mind.

The manufacturer notes that the tires can still be operated on traditional buses, and the rubber compound is designed to provide a high mileage in urban street conditions. Additionally, the tread pattern was developed to improve ride smoothness and reduce noise, and the additional protection of the sidewalls increases resistance to wear, cuts, and other damages when coming into contact with curbs. The sidewalls are also equipped with wear indicators that signal the need to replace the tire, which also increases the overall level of safety.

The new tire can be operated on snow (the 3PMSF marking is present), and the carcass construction has been strengthened to improve its suitability for retreading. A direct competitor is, for example, the Michelin X InCity Z SL tire, also designed for use on electric buses, among other things.

The Continental Conti HAU 5 is available in the size 305/85 R22.5 and belongs to the new line of fifth-generation Continental truck/bus tires, which replace the third-generation models, while skipping the fourth generation, as the number four is considered unlucky in some cultures.
