Electric cars are becoming increasingly popular around the world, and the emergence of new brands expands the choice for consumers, and the development of electromobility has led, among other things, to the appearance of a whole new category of tires. Some manufacturers, such as Hankook, offer full-fledged lines of tires specifically designed for electric vehicles, but do electric cars really require special tires?

This question was answered by representatives of the Chinese company Wuling Motors in a conversation with VOI not so long ago. According to Alfonso, the product planning manager of Wuling's Indonesian branch, "in fact, there are no special requirements that electric vehicle tires must meet. At the same time, they are usually characterized by reduced noise and are equipped with an additional layer of foam to improve acoustic comfort".

His colleague, Danang Viratmoko, added that there is a small difference in rolling resistance between electric vehicle tires and internal combustion engine vehicle tires, and this factor can affect the range between charges.

At the same time, he emphasized that tires for internal combustion engine vehicles can still be used on electric vehicles and vice versa. "If the size fits, standard tires can be installed on an electric vehicle. Although the difference in rolling resistance may affect the range, the impact will be negligible," added the Wuling representative.
