According to the decree of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, the country has extended the period of mandatory use of winter tires on intercity highways, and now passenger and cargo vehicles must be equipped with this type of tire from November 15 to April 15. Earlier, this requirement was in effect from December 1 to April 1, notes Türkiye Today.

The head of the ministry, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, stated that winter tires increase traction on the road at temperatures below 7° C, and provincial governors will be able to extend the period of their mandatory use by one month. In case of violation, a fine of 5,856 lira (11,400 rubles) is provided.

According to the minister, the presence or use of anti-skid chains does not cancel the need for winter tires, and, in addition, all vehicles must be equipped with such equipment as chains, tow ropes, etc.
