In Russia, passenger tire sales have increased
In January-August 2024, sales of passenger car tires in the Russian market grew by 28.9% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 90.2 billion rubles. In physical terms, sales increased by 18%, according to the CRPT (operator of the "Honest Sign" marking)
In Pirelli, they note that the growth in sales is associated with the development of the car market, since "people buy cars on summer tires and then buy sets of winter tires", and in Ikon Tyres, they added that the popularity of Chinese cars creates a demand for tires of new sizes, which the company is currently mastering. In addition, the average size of tires is growing, as SUVs and crossovers are in demand among Russians.
According to CRPT data, in August, the average price of a passenger car tire in the Russian Federation increased by 5.2% compared to last year's figure and amounted to 6.2 thousand rubles. The cost of studded winter tires increased the most (by 6.8%, to 6.1 thousand rubles), and in the segment of summer tires, a growth of 5.5% was noted, to 5.56 thousand rubles.
Over the first eight months of the year, 22.99 million passenger car tires were produced in the country, which is 20.2% more than last year. Import volumes also increased - by 21%, to 18.09 million units. According to Ikon, the share of Chinese brands has increased from 11% in 2019 to 37% this year, which "poses risks for local players".
Ikon predicts that by the end of the year, the Russian passenger car tire market will grow by 5-6%, and in Cordiant, they note that now drivers are looking for new brands to replace those that have left Russia, and this process will be completed in a few years, when all car owners go through the cycle of replacing tires.
