In Russia, a ban on studded tires has come into effect
On June 1, a ban on the use of studded winter tires, which cannot be operated for three summer months, came into force in Russia. Otherwise, the driver may receive a warning or a fine of 500 rubles. The use of non-studded winter tires during the summer period is allowed.
As noted by "Kommersant", the requirements for the mandatory operation of summer tires in winter and non-studded tires in summer were previously contained in the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union, but no fine was imposed, and now this provision has been added to the Traffic Rules.
The ban on the use of studded tires in the summer is due to the fact that they destroy the road surface, and in 2015, Rosavtodor said that the wear and tear on roads associated with the operation of tires with studs causes damage to the Russian economy of about 220 billion rubles annually.
