In Russia, a new tire certification may appear

The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade has proposed introducing a new mandatory certification for tires in the country and establishing requirements for the maximum allowable content of hazardous substances in their composition, according to "Izvestia" with reference to the draft resolution.

At present, the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union "On the Safety of Wheeled Vehicles (TR CU 018/2011)" define the requirements for the safety of tire products, while standards for the content of carcinogenic substances, in particular, bay-protons in tires up to 0.25%, are absent, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade also notes that "the characteristics declared by foreign manufacturers often do not correspond to real ones".

The authors of the resolution note that currently, Russian regulatory acts do not establish restrictions on the content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the tread of tires, which are carcinogenic, mutagenic, and reproductively toxic substances. In addition, tests of tires for compliance with the requirements of GOST R 51893-2024 ("Pneumatic tires. General technical safety requirements") showed that 11% of domestic and 40% of imported tires do not meet these requirements, while 89% of Russian tires meet the GOST and are carcinogen-safe.

"Given that the products pose an increased risk to the health and life of consumers, it is advisable to introduce confirmation of compliance of this products with established requirements for the content of bay-protons in tires of no more than 0.25% in the form of mandatory certification," the department said.
