In Russia, the recycling of toxic tires may be banned

As stated by the head of Rosprirodnadzor, Svetlana Radionova, whose words are quoted by "Russian Gazette", Russia may ban the recycling of tires with high carcinogen content, as the resulting rubber crumb used in the manufacture of coatings for children's playgrounds and running tracks can pose a threat to health.

Earlier, a new eco-fee was introduced in the country for tires with increased carcinogenic content, which, in the opinion of analysts, can reduce the import of cheap low-quality tires from Asia, as their trade will become unprofitable, and Radionova stated that "since we are against the production and import of tires that harm the environment during wear and use, it would be logical to say that it's also impossible to give them a second life".

"If we don't allow [carcinogenic tire products] to drive on our roads, wear out, and turn into dust that gets into people's lungs, it would be very strange to make children's playgrounds and other products out of them. Or just paths, bike paths, or something else. We will be dealing with this issue separately now," she noted.

According to the head of Rosprirodnadzor, currently only one laboratory in the country conducts tests for carcinogen content in tires, but their number will be increased, and regarding the new eco-fee, she emphasized that "the increase in this norm was due solely to the fact that the state is trying to protect its citizens and their health, as well as all our smaller ones: rivers, fields, land, and everything else".
