A new additive for improving the operational characteristics of automobile tires has been developed at the laboratory of wood chemistry of the Nizhny Novgorod State University named after N.I. Lobachevsky, reports NNTV.

"This component allows improving the tire's grip with asphalt coating. It also increases productivity during rubber mixing, and therefore, tire production," noted Artem Novoselov, a junior research fellow at the laboratory.

The development of the new material took a year, and a team of 10 people participated in the process: analysts and synthetic chemists. Now, in Nizhny Novgorod, it is planned to release the new product in experimental batches.

"It will greatly help domestic tire manufacturers to increase the productivity of their factories and, so to speak, achieve an increase in the share of Russian tires and the quality of Russian tires in the Russian market. We hope that later they will be exported abroad," said Alexander Shchepalov, the head of the laboratory.

The development was made possible thanks to a joint competition between the Nizhny Novgorod Scientific and Educational Center and the company "Orgkhim". The project was invested with 20 million rubles.

"In this project, our support was 10 million rubles, and the company 'Orgkhim' invested another 10 million rubles. And now the university is doing this work in the interests of the industrial partner," said Alexander Tarasenko, the director of the Nizhny Novgorod SEC.

In the future, it is planned to scale up the use of the new technology, which should help improve the quality of Russian tire products.
