Giti Reveals Tires for Speeds up to 500 km/h

Usually, when it comes to speed records, cars are equipped with tires from some well-known manufacturers, but the Chinese supercar Yangwang U9 Track Edition, which recently accelerated to 472.41 km/h on the German ATP circuit, becoming the fastest electric car in the world, was equipped with tires from Giti, and recently the company told about the features of their semi-slicks suitable for speeds up to 500 km/h.

Work on the tires for the new record began in 2024 in Germany, where a large-scale testing program was carried out, including on the famous "Nürburgring", and as a result, an exclusive semi-slick Giti GitiSport e-GTR 2 Pro was developed, primarily intended for racing tracks, but also suitable for public roads (ratio: 90/10). The design of the carcass and the composition of the rubber mixture were "borrowed" from racing tires, and the tread pattern with a groove depth of only 4-4.5 mm was created to improve lap times on racing tracks.

The new tire has passed certification according to Chinese and European standards (CCC and ECE, respectively) and is able to withstand extreme loads, providing, as Giti says, "the ideal balance between speed and safety", and on the sidewalls there are the Yangwang logo and the number 500, indicating the speed for which the semi-slick is designed.

One of the features of the tire was that the surface in contact with the rim has a ribbed structure, which reduces slippage during sharp acceleration or braking, reduces torque loss and tire wear, and also improves handling and stability during acceleration.

"As a global brand born in Singapore, Giti has always paid more attention to scientific research, innovation, and sustainable development," the company says. "From international racing competitions to tests in extreme conditions, and from the market for cars with internal combustion engines to the segment of vehicles with new energy sources, Giti is constantly expanding its technological capabilities, providing customers around the world with reliable products and solutions. Cooperation with Yangwang in the framework of setting a world record once again confirms Giti's leadership in terms of developing ultra-high-speed tires and electric vehicle tires."

The GitiSport e-GTR 2 Pro tires were designed by Giti specialists in China and produced at a plant in Hefei (Anhui Province). The semi-slicks were manufactured in size 325/35ZR20 with a speed index (Y), which denotes tires capable of withstanding speeds over 300 km/h.
