A new tire plant is planned to be built in Egypt
The Egyptian government plans to announce a tender for the construction of a tire manufacturing plant for passenger and light commercial vehicles, with projected investments of around $500 million. The project aims to meet domestic market demand and reduce reliance on imports, according to Asharq Bloomberg.
It is noted that around 8 million tires worth approximately $1.25 billion are imported into Egypt annually. Currently, the country has no local production of passenger or commercial vehicle tires; existing factories mainly produce tires for trucks, as well as for two-wheeled vehicles and tuk-tuks.
The new plant is planned to be built in the city of El-Shorouk (El-Ashir min Ramadan) through a partnership with the private sector, and the project will be overseen by the Ministry of Military Production.
Currently, a plant that will also produce passenger car tires is being constructed in Egypt by the Chinese company building Sailun.
