In Bugatti they are aiming for 500 km/h

In mid-November, the Bugatti Mistral in the World Record Edition version accelerated to 453.9 km/h at the test site in Papenburg, Germany, becoming the fastest roadster on the planet, and on the day of setting the record, Olli Kew from Top Gear spoke with the head of the French company Mate Rimac, who confirmed that in the future, it is possible that cars with a maximum speed of up to 500 km/h will be created, and they will be helped by the company Michelin.

"This is the 33rd record in my life that I have participated in," noted Rimac. "I set five world records on the BMW E30 15-16 years ago. Last year, [Rimac] Nevera set 27 world records, and now there was the first record with Bugatti. But I think the whole point is to push the boundaries, raise the bar."

According to him, "such cars, of course, are designed for people who can afford them. We have wonderful clients. But I think we should explore the boundaries of the possible. There are guys from Michelin. We are developing tire technologies, expanding the boundaries. Today's tires compared to what they were 30 years ago are a completely different level."

When asked what Rimac discussed with Michelin representatives in Papenburg, and whether they talked about a tire that can withstand 500 km/h, he replied: "That's exactly what we discussed. I realized that those who were here are responsible for this type of UHP and racing tires. And I started asking: "Can you do this? And what if this? Where's the limit?" One of the questions was: "What is the maximum static load on Turian tires on the front and rear axles at 0 km/h?" And they answer: "What? Why are you asking such a question?" Only very technically savvy specialists understand where such a question came from. That's the story. And the next question was: "Can we put a five as the first digit in the new record?" Maybe.
