In Algeria, the construction of a new tire plant has begun
On December 29, the construction of a new tire plant was officially launched in the Algerian province of Tuggurt, with an investment of around 27 billion dinars (210 million dollars). The enterprise in the city of Tamasin will be able to produce 2 million truck tires and 3 million passenger car tires per year, according to the Algerian Agency for Promotion of Investments (AAPI).
In recent years, the tire industry has been rapidly developing in Algeria, and in 2019, a plant of the local company Iris Tyres was opened in Sétif, and a few months ago, the construction of a joint venture with the Chinese company Doublestar began in Oran. In addition, there are plans to create a tire production in Oum El Bouaghi, and the total capacity of the four plants, as stated in the AAPI, will be around 20 million tires per year, which should meet the needs of the local market and open up opportunities for export.
The plant in Tuggurt will employ around 1,700 people. The AAPI does not specify which companies are participating in the project, but according to available photos, the Chinese company Mesnac, a leading manufacturer of equipment for the tire industry, is acting as a partner.
