Toyo celebrates the 35th anniversary of its Proxes sports tire line

At the automotive exhibition in Essen, Germany, Toyo Tires celebrated the 35th anniversary of its line of performance tires, which have helped set records over the years, have been fitted on numerous vehicles, and are currently used in racing competitions worldwide.

The name of the series comes from the word "proxemics"—the science studying how humans use space in communication—and according to marketers, it is meant to symbolize the harmonious interaction between tires, vehicle, and road. The first tire introduced into the series was the Toyo Proxes U1, which entered the market in 1991.

In 1993, the Toyo Proxes F1S model was introduced, which was homologated for the Porsche 911, and the company states that the main goal in developing the series was "to create tires that do not merely meet the demands of sports car enthusiasts and tuners, but perfectly match them."

In the 1990s, Proxes tires reportedly "made a breakthrough," with the now-classic Proxes T1S model being launched, followed in 2005 by the Proxes T1R, which is now considered legendary. In 1999, more vehicles at the SEMA tuning show in Las Vegas were equipped with tires from this family than any other, and later they were also featured on cars in the Fast & Furious film series. Today, the model offered is called the Proxes TR1.

In 2006, the Proxes R888 tires hit the market, "setting a new standard in the semi-slick segment," and today the next-generation model Proxes R888R is available, popular both in motorsports and the tuning industry, with its successor soon to be released. The premiere might take place in Essen, and the company assures that the characteristic Proxes advantages will be retained while elevating their performance to a new level.

Today, the flagship model of the lineup is the Proxes Sport 2, which also includes the Proxes Comfort tire. Unlike other models in the family, it was developed with a focus on improved comfort and is therefore ideally suited for everyday use in city traffic.

The situation in the industry is constantly changing, and now new Proxes tyres are being developed considering the growing popularity of electric vehicles, as well as the need to improve tyre eco-friendliness—achieved, among other ways, by incorporating recycled materials. For this reason, solutions are being created that reduce tyre noise and rolling resistance without compromising grip, while recycled raw materials are used in production to minimize environmental impact.

According to the company, the Proxes line 'is constantly evolving, but the key priorities remain unchanged, and thanks to reliable grip and maximum vehicle control, the tyres still deliver genuine driving pleasure.'
