Tesla does not test Michelin airless tires
Although last year Michelin's CEO Florent Menegaux told The Drive in an interview that negotiations were underway with Tesla to test the airless UPTIS tires, the company recently emphasized that no such testing is planned.
The news that Tesla would be testing airless tires was recently reported by the portal Not a Tesla App, but after the publication of the material, the editorial office received a message from Michelin stating that negotiations regarding UPTIS tire testing are not being conducted.
Although things apparently haven't worked out with Tesla, Michelin has already tested non-pneumatic tires in conjunction with another automaker - General Motors. The start of testing airless tires on the Chevrolet Bolt electric car was announced back in 2019, but there has been no data on whether tires of this type may at least theoretically begin to be installed on any production vehicle.
Be that as it may, Michelin has made more progress in the development of airless tires that are not afraid of punctures than other manufacturers, and it was recently announced that UPTIS will be tested on public roads with the participation of the French Post and the Singaporean division of the DHL delivery service.
