Sumitomo recalls 57 Dunlop motorcycle tires

Sumitomo Rubber Industries is recalling a batch of 57 motorcycle tires Dunlop TT93FGP Pro for the front and TT93GP Pro for the rear axle in sizes 100/90-12 and 120/80-12, manufactured at the Izumiotsu plant (Japan) from the 1st to the 27th week of 2025, due to a reduced level of traction. 

In June 2025, Japanese consumers reported that the TT93FGP Pro tires in size 100/90-12 had insufficient traction, after which Sumitomo halted production of tires in this size and stopped supplying them to customers. An internal investigation revealed that due to a malfunction of the extruder, the rubber compound used for the sidewalls was getting onto the tread surface, creating a thin layer that was invisible during standard visual inspection and could worsen grip during aggressive driving, which could lead to a motorcycle falling.

Sumitomo tested the tires on dry and wet surfaces and noted that it did not detect any significant deterioration in characteristics in the normal speed range, but for safety reasons, it was decided to conduct a recall procedure, and the equipment malfunction was eliminated.

After repairing the extruder, a test was conducted on a wet surface, and the braking distance of the tires was 14% shorter than that of products available for sale, which means their effectiveness was confirmed.

The Dunlop TT93GP Pro tires, introduced to the US market in 2021, were specifically designed for track racing on mini motorcycles.
