Sumitomo Rubber USA (a subsidiary of Japanese Sumitomo Rubber Industries) is recalling 150 off-road tires Falken WildPeak AT4W, size 275/60 R20, manufactured at the Buffalo plant (New York, USA) during the 39th week of 2024, as stated in the message of the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It is noted that part of the tires were manufactured using one layer of nylon and one layer of polyester, whereas the sidewalls indicate that the construction includes two layers of polyester, as a result of which the tires do not meet the requirements of US federal standards.

In Sumitomo, it is noted that tires that do not meet the necessary specifications may potentially fail under certain circumstances, which increases the risk of an accident, and for this reason, it was decided to start the recall procedure. According to the manufacturer's estimates, 18% of the tires from the recalled batch were manufactured with a violation of the technological process. All tires will be replaced free of charge.

As was recently announced, the Buffalo plant will be closed soon.
