Is it worth overpaying
In the previous article, we shared a way to buy a former flagship model at a low price. Today, we would like to continue discussing this issue and answer the second part of the question - is it worth overpaying for the latest flagship models or can you settle for second-tier brands if they are good enough. In other words, is it worth overpaying?
The question is extremely interesting and very important. Companies do not hide that they put a high price on their strongest models. But, contrary to the opinion of the majority, the price of these tires includes not only raw materials and advertising. The budgets of the innovation and development departments also play a huge role. How much it will be possible to reduce the braking distance, although it already seems that we are close to the physical limits.
The latest test by the "Behind the Wheel" magazine, size 195/65 R15, which compared, among other models, today's flagship "Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10p" and a tire that is two generations behind, "Nokian Nordman 8", showed a difference in braking on ice of 1 meter. 14.9 against 15.9. At first glance, a difference of just 1 meter is not that much. But almost every car owner has at least one case where they stopped on ice from an obstacle in a matter of centimeters. Imagine what would happen if you crashed into that obstacle by 1 meter. The cost of this meter is entirely different in cases where these obstacles can be pedestrians or animals that suddenly run onto the road.
Manufacturers directly state that there is a cheapening of the rubber mixture recipe when transitioning tires from the first line. But the tread, the number of spikes, and their shape remain unchanged. That's why these tires are worth giving preference to.
