The US has introduced anti-dumping duties on truck tires from Thailand

On October 10, the US Department of Commerce (DOC) made a final decision regarding the imposition of anti-dumping duties on the import of truck and bus tires from Thailand. It was decided that new tariffs of 48.39% would be introduced for Bridgestone and 12.33% for all other suppliers.

Earlier, on May 14, 2024, the DOC had preliminarily confirmed that truck and bus tires from Thailand were being supplied to the US at prices "below fair". According to the preliminary decision, the dumping margin for Prinx and Chengshan was set at 0%, and for other companies at 2.35%.

According to the DOC, between 2020 and 2022, the cost of truck and bus tires imported from Thailand to the US market grew from $623 million to $1.46 billion.

The anti-dumping investigation was initiated in November 2023 after receiving a petition from the US Steelworkers Union (USW), which noted that the anti-dumping and countervailing duties imposed on truck and bus tires from China in 2019 "were able to stop the flow of tires at unfair prices from China, but now we see that Chinese companies are investing in their Thai divisions, again increasing their market share".
