Reduce tire noise

We have already written about the technologies for reducing tire noise. It consists in the fact that a special insert made of a material similar to foam is installed in the tires. This makes it possible to reduce the noise by up to 10 dB.

On the internet, tips and instructions on how to install foam in tires to reduce noise immediately appeared. Does this really work? The answer is yes, it works. The noise is indeed reduced, but not as significantly. The manufacturer adapts the location of the insert based on the type of tread pattern and width of the protector. Sometimes you can find an offset insert or even two parallel strips of foam. Hence the conclusion, you will reduce the noise, but not significantly, and far from the factory optimization.

It is also worth noting that the factory gluing is done in a way that is harmless to the tires. While self-gluing can lead to damage to the sensitive sealing layer, which replaces the camera holding pressure in the tires.

The conclusion can be as follows - it is possible to place a noise-absorbing material yourself, but it's not so easy to do it safely and efficiently. It's better to try to buy tires with similar technology from the manufacturer.
