Change of Conditions — Development of Tires

Tire, which we talked about in the previous post, was designed for trucks, while the success of the "snow" pattern prompted the company to launch a line for passenger cars called Hakkapeliitta.

The first tire in the Hakkapeliitta lineup was the Lumi-Hakkapeliitta. But, as you've noticed, model names change, and the Hakkapeliitta lineup has survived to this day.

The term "Hakkapeliitta" itself is a tribute to Finland's history and was used to refer to a Finnish light cavalryman in the service of the King of Sweden.

But making a successful tire model is not all. Gradually, the conditions for operating tires became more complex. First and foremost, this is due to the increasing number of cars. In addition, with the development of the road network, it became necessary to clear fallen snow, which, on the one hand, made it easier for tires to work, but on the other hand, made the surface more slippery. Therefore, engineers were looking for a new solution for traction on rolled snow and ice.

As you've already guessed, this solution was anti-skid studs. We'll talk about their appearance in the next post.
